Fjord Campers Terms and Conditions as of 10th of September 2022
When completing a reservation with Fjord Campers, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
A copy of the contract including these Terms and Conditions will be given to the driver upon pick-up.
- RENTAL PERIOD: Rental period starts with the handover of the campervan. The period of rental ends with the lessor confirming the handover back upon the date and time stated on the rental contract. This will take place during the business hours of the lessor unless otherwise specified in writing. Lessee has read, understood, and accepted these terms and conditions by signing the rental contract.
- PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF TIMES: Campervans can be picked-up seven days a week between 10:00 and 18:00 depending on fleet availability on the day of pick up, but your campervan will be available for pick up no later than 14:00 unless a different time has been agreed in writing by Fjord Campers. Campervans must be returned by 12:00 (noon) or will be subject to fees listed in section (3.) of this agreement.
- LATE DROP-OFF: If the lessee does not return the campervan at the time agreed upon in this contract, or does not declare his intention to extend the rental period, the lessor or the police are authorized to repossess the vehicle without further notice, and at the lessee’s cost. Extending the rental is dependent on the consent of the lessor and fleet availability. If the lessee returns the vehicle 1 hour or later after the lease has expired, the lessor will demand up to 24 hours of rental costs under the terms of this contract and a fine of 1500 NOK.
- EARLY DROP-OFF: There is no refund available for the unused portion of the rental should the campervan be returned earlier than contractually agreed on the rental agreement.
- RENTAL EXTENSIONS: If the lessee wishes to extend the rental whilst on rent, they must obtain authorization from the lessor. Rental extension is subject to fleet availability. Any request for an extension must be communicated in writing as soon as possible and approved by Fjord Campers.
- PAYMENTS: Reservation must be paid in full at the time of booking. Rental charges are calculated on a “per night” basis.
- DEPOSIT ON ARRIVAL: When picking up the campervan, the lessee will have to do a deposit payment. The deposit has to cover the lessee’s self-risk fee. The deposit will be charged from the lessee’s credit card and will be refunded 10 days after the campervan return and every balance due is settled. If any additional costs (all expected and unexpected costs and charges during the rental period including extra insurance, damages, repairs, tolls, tank refill, parking tickets, or speeding tickets) have to be withheld, the remaining amount will be returned by money transfer after the incident is cleared.
- EXTRAS: Extras must be booked in advance. Options and prices can be found on the Fjord Campers website. All extras must be returned in the condition they were picked up.
- EXCHANGE RATE/CURRENCY FLUCTUATION: All credit card transactions are conducted in Norwegian Crowns (NOK). Due to exchange rate fluctuations, there could be some variation in the amount initially debited against the credit card and the amount refunded when the vehicle is returned. Fjord Campers accepts no liability for these variations, up or down.
- WRITING AND CALCULATION ERRORS ON RENTAL AGREEMENT: The charges as set out herein are not final. Should a written and/or calculation error occur, the guest authorizes Fjord Campers (Simon og Justin AS) to charge their credit card for any shortage, or in case of overpayment, receive payment from Fjord Campers.
- TAXES AND GOVERNMENT CHARGES: All charges are inclusive of 25% VAT.
- VEHICLE MODEL AND SIZE: All Fjord Campers campervans are advertised openly and honestly on our website. All vehicles are supplied in direct relationship to models booked by the guest. Any refusal to take the vehicle that was booked is classified as a cancellation on the day of pick-up and will not be entitled to a refund. Lessor reserves the right to upgrade to a higher-rated vehicle at no extra cost.
- PICK-UP INSPECTION: An inspection of the vehicle should be conducted by the guest upon pick-up. The inspection should cover the exterior of the campervan, internal panels, and windscreen, the internals of the back of the campervan, and the inventory supplied. If the guest notices any problems or damages it should be reported to the lessor immediately. In the case of any issues upon pick-up inspection, please inform us immediately to provide the opportunity to rectify any points prior to departure. Once the campervan is picked up and taken from the pick-up location, the guest agrees that they have received the vehicle in satisfactory condition and no refunds will be provided for issues with the time of pick-up condition of the vehicle from this point forward.
- HELPLINE: For general questions and requests, please send an email to info@fjordcampers.no . A reply will be sent within 24 hours. In case of an urgent matter, please call us at +47 400 22 297. Any problems associated with the campervan must be reported to the lessor as soon as possible and within 24 hours to give the lessor the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental period. Failure to notify the lessor will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period. If the lessor is either not contacted or the lessee does not allow the lessor the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental period, the lessee agrees that the problem is of such a minor nature that the lessee makes no claim for loss of time in respect of the rental period. The lessee also agrees that the lessor is not responsible for any claims made by the lessee after the return of the campervan. Note: It can often be difficult to carry out repairs during weekends and holiday periods and/or in remote areas due to limited opening times and/or spare parts and the lessor will not provide refunds due to delays in obtaining parts for repairs.
- CANCELLATIONS/RENTAL DATE CHANGE: A cancellation/rental date change together with your reservation number has to be sent by email to info@fjordcampers.no. Rental period change options rely entirely on future demand and availability and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. In case of cancellation, the minimum cancellation fee is 1.500,- NOK, and will be charged with any cancellation. The amount of the cancellation fee depends on the date of cancellation (days prior to the beginning of the rental) and graduates as follows:
28 to 22 days = 50% of the total amount of the rental
21 to 15 days = 75% of the total amount of the rental
14 or fewer days = 100% of the total amount of the rental. - CANCELLATION BY LESSOR: Fjord Campers can cancel any reservation/booking in case of overbooking or any other reason. In this case, the full amount will be refunded without any additional costs or fees.
- TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend that the lessee purchases a comprehensive travel insurance policy prior to traveling through a reputable provider.
- INSURANCE: The lessor undertakes to maintain valid liability insurance for business operations. The rental fee includes mandatory vehicle insurance, including liability insurance and accident insurance for the driver and the owner. Third-party liability insurance will consist of the amount stipulated by Norwegian law at any given time. The lessee can purchase separate accident (All-risks) insurance. This policy will specify the amount deductible in each instance of loss. CDW and SCDW do not cover the following:

The same applies to damage occurring when stones are thrown up, striking the underside of the vehicle during driving.
i. Damage resulting from driving in places where vehicle traffic is banned, such as paths, tracks, banks of snow, ice, unbridged rivers or streams, beaches, places only accessible at low tide, or other trackless areas. An E-TOLL tag will be supplied for each campervan. It will be glued to the windscreen. If the E-TAG is lost or damaged during the hire, a replacement cost fee of 500 NOK will be charged. All charges collected by the E-TAG during the rental period will be charged to the lessee after drop-off.
- CLEANING FEE ON RETURN OF VEHICLE: The guest undertakes to forfeit a cleaning fee of 750 NOK should the campervan not be returned to Fjord Campers in the same clean state.
- GAS: The gas bottle supplied with the campervan is not always supplied full on pick-up but is refilled by Fjord Campers frequently. A refill can be purchased by the guest, at the cost of Fjord Campers from any gas station. This amount from the provided receipt will be reimbursed after drop-off. Lessee is responsible for any damage to a Fjord Campers property caused by incorrect usage of the gas bottle and gas fittings.
- FUEL: Regular DIESEL is to be used in all our campervans. Fuel is to be refilled by the lessee when required. The fuel economy of each individual campervan may vary depending on several contributing factors including, but not limited to, how the vehicle is driven, tire pressure, weather, and vehicle load. Fjord Campers will not be held responsible for any variations in fuel economy. The campervan shall be dropped-off with the same amount of fuel as stated on the rental agreement upon pick-up. Campervans returned with a lower level of fuel than indicated will be charged at the market price + 10% extra charge. If you run out of fuel and request roadside assistance you will be liable for the call-out fee, in addition to the cost of the fuel and expenses retrieving the fuel.

- RENTAL REFUSAL: Fjord Campers reserves the right to refuse any rental or the continuation of any rental at its discretion.
- FJORD CAMPERS LIABILITY: Fjord Campers will not be liable to the guest for any loss, damage, or inconvenience caused by delayed delivery of the vehicle, or by the vehicle not being suitable for the guest’s purposes. Fjord Campers will not be liable for any loss or inconvenience from change in drop-off location caused by natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, hailstorms, earthquakes, etc., nor for any personal injury or damage to the guest’s property caused thereby.
- REPAIRS: Fjord Campers’ campervans are always fully maintained and serviced. However, it must be recognized that occasional breakdowns and small problems will occur. Lessor has a 24/7 agreement on breakdowns with his insurance provider.
Should serious problems be encountered; the guest must inform Fjord Campers at the first possible opportunity and follow Fjord Campers’ instructions. In case of an emergency or urgent matter, please call our administration at +47 400 22 297.
Downtime: In all cases, the responsibility of Fjord Campers is limited to refunding for the downtime that the vehicle is in a repair shop and the time lost through not being able to drive the vehicle. Minor repairs to mechanical items and oil consumption up to NOK 500 will be reimbursed against receipts on completion of the rental.
Accommodation: No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during such downtime. However, the client has the right to choose between Fjord Campers refunding for lost time, and Fjord Campers paying the accommodation (to a maximum of NOK 1000 per night).
Flat battery: Should roadside assistance be requested by the lessee due to flat batteries, and it is detected that the cause was due to the fault of the lessee, the lessee will be responsible for the callout fee incurred. If the fault with the battery is due to mechanical problems, there will be no charge.
Refund for lost time: Any refund for on-road problems will be made at the end of the rental period. The repair time will be calculated, and the downtime reimbursed at the time of delivery from the repairer. Downtime will be calculated in hours, not days, and credited to the guest’s credit card.
Fjord Campers is not responsible for damage to the guest’s property caused by water due to leaks. Most travel insurances will however cover such damages.
Fjord Campers will not be held responsible for the guests missing pre-organized tours due to vehicle repairs or breakdowns. Fjord Campers will not reimburse any non-refundable deposits or other associated costs incurred by the guest as a result.
In the event of a vehicle motor overheating and driven continually until it can no longer function or any damage to the vehicle caused by user error, Fjord Campers has the right under its Terms and Conditions to terminate the rental agreement immediately and to finalize and cancel further use of the vehicle at the guest’s expense. All towing, transport, and repairs will be at the guest’s expense. - MAINTENANCE & RESPONSIBILITY: It is the lessee’s responsibility to check and maintain all fluid and fuel levels and to immediately rectify and/or report to Fjord Campers if heavy usage of oil or coolant is occurring or any defect of which the guest becomes aware. It is the lessee’s duty to check the fluid levels every five days (or 500km) to ensure fluid levels are correct. Please check fluid levels while the motor is cold early in the morning. The lessee will be held fully responsible for engine damage if the radiator cap is not properly replaced and sealed after checking fluid levels and/or the warning buzzer or dash lights indicating problems for overheating are ignored. On presentation of receipts, Fjord Campers will reimburse refills of all fluids except diesel.
- VEHICLE USE: The lessee shall not use the campervan for anything other than its intended purpose or allow the use of the campervan to carry passengers or goods for hire. The lessee shall not allow the campervan to be used to carry volatile liquids, corrosive or flammable materials, or explosives. The lessee will not place any signage of any kind on the campervan to advertise or alter the outside appearance of the campervan. The lessee shall drive the campervan in a careful and cautious manner and will not do or allow to be done anything to harm the campervan.
- ROAD RESTRICTIONS: Fjord Campers campervans are not allowed to travel on unsealed (dirt or gravel) roads, or beaches. Traveling on these roads voids all damage protection coverage. The lessee will be liable for all damage caused by traveling on unsealed (dirt or gravel) roads. The full cost of the damage to all parties concerned may be deducted from the guest.
Fjord Campers does not provide any on-road assistance or repairs where the campervan is on unsealed roads, this is the lessee’s responsibility entirely to arrange their own assistance on unsealed roads. - CAMPERVAN EQUIPMENT: The lessee will be charged for any missing or damaged items.
- TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN: Fjord Campers will take no responsibility for incorrect vehicles booked for carrying children and any refusal to take the campervan that was booked is classified as a cancellation on the day of pick-up and will not be entitled to a refund under any circumstance. We have some campervans suitable for traveling with children under 140 cm and the guest must specify this by reserving a child-safe campervan. Fjord Campers is not legally permitted to and will not provide any assistance in fitting or selecting child restraints for campervans or any fines accumulated for children traveling in incorrect child restraints. This is entirely the responsibility of the lessee.
- KEYS: The guest will be responsible for the cost of replacing keys that are lost or broken, or for the retrieval of keys locked in a vehicle. The cost of a locksmith traveling to the campervan will be at the guest’s expense.
- DISCLAIMER: All illustrations, photos, and text in any of our advertising material, including our website, are a representation only of the campervans depicted. Variances in any campervan or equipment offered for rental may occur due to modifications and/or upgrades.
- CONTRACTUAL RIGHTS: The lessee accepts that the Terms and Conditions make this a Norwegian contract and that the guest will be bound by Norwegian Law in which the Agreement is contracted.

A Fjord Campers insurance form supplied by Fjord Campers must be filled in completely and accurately, with detailed diagrams, descriptions of the accident, and complete details from all parties involved in the accident, signed, dated, and forwarded to Fjord Campers immediately. If the lessee or co-hirers does not adhere to the above Terms and Conditions all insurance will be canceled and the full amount of all repair costs and damages including lost revenue or medical expenses, refunds due to lost time for future customers, and accommodation fees required will be forwarded to the guest.
Towing and retrieval of damaged vehicles to the closest Fjord Campers approved location is covered. In the event of an accident resulting in the vehicle being damaged sufficiently to require replacement, it is the lessee’s responsibility to make their way to the closest Fjord Campers-approved location that has a replacement vehicle available. Any expenses incurred whilst traveling to the closest Fjord Campers-approved location that has a replacement campervan or motorhome available are the guest’s responsibility. - THE GUEST MUST ALWAYS AIM TO DRIVE SAFELY AND RESPONSIBLY.
The majority of accidents are caused by driving at night or:
- Driving too fast.
- Driving on the wrong side of the road.
- Turning across oncoming traffic.
- Driving while fatigued, tired, or sleepy.
- Animals running across the road.
- Reversing without caution.
- Driving when intoxicated.

7. Roads & Geographic Limits
7.1 Legal Road Use in Norway
Norwegian law strictly prohibits driving motor vehicles “off-road” in order to protect nature. This applies regardless of vehicle type and is subject to significant fines and liability. The Vehicle may only be driven on roads that are clearly intended, maintained, and engineered for normal passenger vehicles.
7.2 What Is Considered Off-Road (Illegal Use)
Off-road driving includes, but is not limited to:
•Tractor roads and forestry tracks
•Hiking trails and paths
•Beaches and shorelines
•Forest areas and uncultivated land
•Sand, mud, rocks, or open terrain
•Snow-covered roads that are not regularly cleared in winter
•Any terrain not clearly defined as a public or private vehicle road
Driving in any of the above areas is illegal under Norwegian law and strictly prohibited under this agreement.
7.3 What Is Permitted
The Vehicle may be driven on:
•Public paved or gravel roads that are maintained and engineered for vehicles
•Private roads, provided they are not closed, gated, or clearly restricted
Rule of thumb:
If a normal passenger car (e.g., a small electric or city car) can reasonably, as assessed by Fjord Campers acting in good faith, drive the road, it is usually permitted.
If the road requires 4×4 capability, special driving skills, or resembles a trail or track, it is likely illegal.
7.4 Effect on Insurance & Liability
Driving off-road or in prohibited areas immediately voids all insurance and damage protection.
The Guest will be fully liable for:
•All damage to the Vehicle
•Recovery and towing costs
•Environmental fines or penalties
•Any third-party claims
7.5 No Assistance in Prohibited Areas
Fjord Campers does not provide roadside assistance, recovery, or towing in off-road or prohibited areas. All such services must be arranged and paid by the Guest.

The Vehicle may not be taken outside Norway without written permission. Cross-border use without approval voids insurance.
8. Insurance & Damage Protection
8.1 Included Insurance
The rental includes mandatory Norwegian vehicle insurance (Basic Protection Plan), including third-party liability coverage as required by law.
8.2 Damage Protection Options
The Guest may purchase additional damage protection (Premium Protection Plan) as offered by Fjord Campers. These products reduce, but do not eliminate, the Guest’s financial responsibility. We always recommend purchasing travel insurance for peace of mind.
8.3 General Guest Responsibility
The Guest is responsible for all damage not covered by insurance, including but not limited to:
•Negligence or reckless driving
•Driving under influence
•Water damage
•Interior burns, stains, or misuse
•Lost or damaged keys
•Incorrect fuel usage
•Off-road or prohibited road damage
8.4 Tires & Windscreen
Damage to tires and windscreen glass is not covered by standard damage protection unless a specific protection product is purchased. Where such protection applies, the Guest’s liability for tires and windscreen glass is capped at NOK 5,000 per incident. Windshield protection applies only to the glass itself and does not include surrounding bodywork, paint, or structural parts.
8.5 Exclusion of Coverage for Overhead / Roof Damage
Notwithstanding any purchased protection plan (including Premium Protection Plan), the Guest remains fully liable for all damage occurring above the windshield line.
This includes, but is not limited to:
•The roof
•Roof pillars
•Roof edges and gutters
•Roof racks, roof boxes, or tents
•Solar panels or any roof-mounted equipment
Such damage is categorized as “Overhead Damage” and is not considered a covered accidental loss under this agreement.
The Guest is responsible for the full cost of repair, regardless of any deductible (excess) that would otherwise apply.
8.6 Typical Causes of Overhead Damage
Overhead damage commonly results from:
•Low bridges or height restrictions
•Parking garages
•Trees or branches
•Improper loading of roof equipment
The Guest is solely responsible for ensuring sufficient clearance at all times.
8.7 Theft
Theft is covered by insurance unless caused by the Guest’s failure to properly secure the Vehicle or its keys.
8.8 Reporting Damage
All damage or incidents must be reported to Fjord Campers immediately. Failure to report may result in loss of insurance coverage.
8.9 Gross Negligence
Insurance coverage is void in cases of gross negligence, intentional damage, or breach of these Terms. The Guest remains liable for any amounts not covered by insurance, including deductibles, depreciation, or administrative handling.

•Contact Fjord Campers immediately.
•Notify the police where required by law.

Failure to report an accident or to follow instructions may result in the Guest being fully liable for all damages and associated costs.
9.3 Breakdowns
Fjord Campers maintains the Vehicles to a high standard, but breakdowns may occur. The Guest must inform Fjord Campers as soon as issue arises. Fjord Campers will always aim to minimize disruption to your trip. Any mechanical, technical, or operational problems with the Vehicle must be reported to Fjord Campers as soon as possible and no later than 24 hours after the issue occurs. This allows Fjord Campers the opportunity to assess and, where possible, resolve the problem during the rental period. Failure to report an issue within this timeframe may result in loss of any right to compensation or refund. If the Guest does not contact Fjord Campers, or does not allow Fjord Campers a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue during the rental, the issue will be considered minor and no claim for loss of rental time will be accepted. No claims will be accepted after the Vehicle has been returned.
Please note that repairs may be delayed during weekends, holidays, or in remote areas due to limited workshop availability or spare parts. Fjord Campers is not responsible for delays outside its control and no refunds will be given for such delays.
9.4 Repairs During Rental
Minor mechanical expenses up to 500 NOK may be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. All repairs require prior approval.
9.5 Downtime
If the Vehicle becomes unusable due to mechanical failure not caused by the Guest, Fjord Campers will refund rental charges for the actual downtime in hours, not days.
9.6 Accommodation During Downtime
